The Center is located at the UAB Campus, and currently hosts 200 members from across the world.

Research Programs at CRAG (from basic science to applied research using plant experimental model systems, crops and farm animals) make extensive use of genomic technologies and large sets of genetic and genomic data (https://www.cragenomica.es/sites/default/files/2022-07/crag-summary-2020...).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

CRAG is looking for a lab technician to work on a project funded by the European Commission within the framework of the Horizon Europe Call. The role of CRAG in this project is to build twelve high quality genome assemblies from different Crop Wild Relatives of five economically relevant crops. The goal of the lab technician is to process the seed material and carry out the HMW DNA extraction and RNA extraction of these plant species using different protocols and optimizing them according to the results obtained. Once the protocols have been optimized, the candidate will carry out the protocol for Hi-C. The candidate will be working with Dr. Laura Botigué and Dr. Raúl Castanera in the Plant and Animal Genomics Department that has all the necessary equipment and will meet regularly with researchers from the Plant and Animal Genomics Program that are involved in the project to discuss the protocols.

Skills: We look for candidates with good knowledge in Biology, Plant sciences and laboratory protocols. Experience in methods related with HMW DNA extraction for long read sequencing, seed germination and Nucleic acid extraction protocols. The candidate must be able to work in an international group of researchers.

Experience: Six-month experience in a wet lab and command of English language are a must. Experience in using and optimizing different protocols for HMW DNA isolation in non-model plant species.

Previous experience as a user of Plant growth facilities is a plus.
