Job description

ABOUT CRAG:

CRAG is an independent research institution engaged in leading-edge basic and applied plant and farm animal sciences. CRAG is established as a Consortium of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA), Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), and University of Barcelona (UB). The Center is located at the UAB Campus, and currently hosts 200 members from across the world.

Research Programs at CRAG (from basic science to applied research using plant experimental model systems, crops and farm animals) make extensive use of genomic technologies and large sets of genetic and genomic data (https://biennialreport2016-2017.cragenomica.es/).

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Center for Research in Agricultural Genomics (CRAG) is looking for a Communication Officer to be part of the Communication and Open Science Office.

 

The Communication Officer will work under the direct supervision of the Head of the Communication & Open Science Area. His/her main responsibilities will include:

-              To coordinate CRAG’s outreach activities. This includes managing externally funded projects and preparing their justification.

-              To generate written content about CRAG and CRAG’s research outputs (news, press releases, bi-annual report and other web content)

-              To generate the weekly internal newsletter

-              To manage the Centre’s social networks

-              To organize institutional and scientific events

-              To publicize CRAG’s external seminars and other events through different established channels, including the design of posters and brochures.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Educational requirements:

•             Degree in life sciences

•             Master’s in science communication

•             Tittle accrediting a minimum English B2 CEFR level or equivalent 

Skills:

•             Strong command of written and spoken Catalan, Spanish and English

•             Basic-level graphic design skills

•             Familiarity with web content management (CMS)

•             Ability to understand scientific messages in the areas of molecular biology and genomics and effectively transmit them to a variety of audiences

•             Ability to work with people from different backgrounds at different levels (scientists, administration, designers.)

•             Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and handle multiple tasks

•             Knowledge of the Catalan education system is desirable

 

Experience:

•             At least two years of experience in scientific communication and outreach activities working in a similar position in a research institution in the area of life sciences. Working experience in a CERCA Center will be positively valued

•             Previous experience in working in outreach projects funded by the Spanish FECYT, and in preparing their justifications

•             Previous experience in organization of institutional events or scientific meetings

•             Previous experience in managing projects within the deadlines with minimal supervision

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Contract Duration: Replacement contract

Hours/week: Full time
