Job description

CRAG is an independent research institution engaged in leading-edge basic and applied plant and farm animal sciences. CRAG is established as a Consortium of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA), Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), and University of Barcelona (UB). The Center is located at the UAB Campus, and currently hosts 200 members from across the world.

Research Programs at CRAG (from basic science to applied research using plant experimental model systems, crops, and farm animals) make extensive use of genomic technologies and large sets of genetic and genomic data (https://www.cragenomica.es).

Role

The Center for Research in Agricultural Genomics (CRAG) is looking for a highly qualified individual to fill the role of Omics Platform Manager to oversee the management and optimization of CRAG’s omics platforms, ensuring the efficient operation of the genomics facility. The Omics Platform Manager will collaborate closely with researchers involved in various research projects and with the CRAG Direction in the development of strategies to improve the platforms.

His/her main responsibilities will include:

As the Core Facilities Manager, you will play a pivotal role in leading and coordinating our Genomics and Metabolomics services. Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee and lead the coordination of two CRAG core facilities: Genomics and Metabolomics services.
  • Take on decision-making responsibilities.
  • Stay informed about the latest technological advances and provide guidance to researchers on optimal experimental approaches.
  • Provide continuous support to CRAG researchers in implementing omics methodologies and troubleshooting.
  • Engage in contracts with external companies, fostering valuable collaborations.
  • Coordinate contracts involving various services such as the Plant Growth Facility, Genomics, and Bioinformatics, and coordinate in the definition of tariffs.
  • Calculate the quarterly billing of all the Service's equipment, in order to provide economic information.
  • Assist the Purchasing Department in formulating strategies for utilizing sequencing services in compliance with public procurement laws, including technical reports and follow-ups.
  • Collaborate with governmental Catalan Departments and serve as the contact person for the GINYs program.
  • Assist in the operation of equipment related to the genomics facilities
  • Train new users in the proper operation and utilization of genomics equipment within the Service, ensuring the seamless progression of research activities.
  • Follow specific technical manuals for each piece of equipment, with a focus on genomics.

Requirements:

  • PhD in a relevant scientific field, Genomics will be an asset.
  • Experience in engaging with external companies and managing contracts.
  • Proven experience in coordinating and leading core facilities, particularly in Genomics and Metabolomics.
  • Experience in the operation of nucleic acid quantification equipment (bioanalyzer, qubit, fluidigm, tapestation)
  • Familiarity with non-profit sector.
  • Ability to collaborate with governmental bodies and programs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written in at least Spanish and English.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to take initiative, multi-task, be a team-player, be flexible, adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Good judgment and ability to function with autonomy.
  • Attention to detail and prioritization skills will positive asset.
  • Ability to handle confidential matters.
  • Problem solving, proactive and innovative performance.
  • Good working knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to access a wide range of sources and networks for information. 

Working conditions:

  • Permanent position
  • Working day: Full 37.5 hours/week.
  • Remuneration: depending on the experience and qualifications provided and framed within the salary structure of CRAG.
  • Planned date of incorporation: March 2024
  • Facilities for balance work and personal life through flexible working hours, 22 days of holidays, 9 free days of personal matters; intensive working hours on summer and Fridays.
