Job description

ABOUT CRAG:

CRAG is an independent research institution engaged in leading-edge basic and applied plant and farm animal sciences. CRAG is established as a Consortium of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA), Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), and University of Barcelona (UB). The Center is located at the UAB Campus, and currently hosts 200 members from across the world.

 Research Programs at CRAG (from basic science to applied research using plant experimental model systems, crops, and farm animals) make extensive use of genomic technologies and large sets of genetic and genomic data (https://www.cragenomica.es).

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 The Center for Research in Agricultural Genomics (CRAG) is looking for a Junior Bioinformatician to join the Bioinformatics Unit, within the Core Facilities area.

 The Bioinformatics Unit is a team dedicated to support and perform research at CRAG, offering services ranging from experimental to software design. The unit is currently organized in two functional areas, namely Scientific IT and Molecular Data Analysis.

 His/her main responsibilities will include:

  • Work alongside his/her senior member to carry out analyses of genomic and bioinformatic data.
  • Suport the design and optimization of bioinformatic analyses.
  • Collaborate in training activities on bioinformatics for all levels of research staff.
  • Elaborate accurate scientific records of the analyses performed and the results obtained.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Formative cycle in Bioinformatics or similar
  • Bsc / Msc Bioinformatic, computational science, biology, statistics or similar will be an asset.
  • Knowledge of informatic languages and coding skills in Python, R or similar.
  • Knowledge in biostatistics, genomics and transcriptomics, as well as previous experience in working in a similar position in a research institution will be an asset.
  • Good command of English, Catalan, and Spanish.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Position: Junior Bioinformatician
  • Interim contract until filling the vacancy with a permanent contract
  • Working day: Full 37.5 hours/week.
  • Remuneration: depending on the experience and qualifications provided and framed within the salary structure of CRAG.
  • Planned date of incorporation: September 2023
  • Mechanisms for life-work balance through teleworking and flexible working hours, 22 days of holidays, 9 free days of personal matters; intensive working hours on summer and Fridays.
