Job description

The Center for Research in Agricultural Genomics (CRAG) is looking for a lab technical support to be part of the group working on Plant and Animal Genomics.

CRAG is an independent research institution engaged in leading-edge basic and applied plant and farm animal sciences. CRAG is established as a Consortium of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA), Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), and University of Barcelona (UB). The Center is located at the UAB Campus, and currently hosts 200 members from across the world.

Research Programs at CRAG (from basic science to applied research using plant experimental model systems, crops and farm animals) make extensive use of genomic technologies and large sets of genetic and genomic data (http://biannualreport2014-2015.cragenomica.es/).

Responsibilities:

The candidate will be responsible for the RNA extraction of the boar sperm samples. Moreover, he/she will carry Western Blot experiments to quantify the protein levels of HSP90 in sperm samples with divergent quality measurements.

The tasks are included within the framework at the project “Genomic approaches for the assessment of boar semen quality” (AGL2013-44978-R).

Requirements:

Educational Requirements:

The candidate will host a bachelor degree on genetics, biology, animal production sciences, biomedical sciences, or related topic.

Required Skills:

The candidate must have experience on the processing of boar sperm samples and the phenotypic analysis of sperm quality traits (microscope based morphology, CASA assisted motility analysis,…), western blot and cytometry, and RNA extraction and analysis (RT-qPCR) as well as statistical analysis of the data.

Contract duration: 2 months (July and September, not including August)
