Job description

The Center for Research in Agricultural Genomics (CRAG) is looking for a laboratory technician to be part of the Botigué group working on the genomic analysis of archaeological emmer wheat remains.

CRAG is an independent research institution engaged in leading-edge basic and applied plant and farm animal sciences. CRAG is established as a Consortium of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA), Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), and University of Barcelona (UB). The Center is located at the UAB campus, and currently hosts 200 members from across the world.

Research Programs at CRAG (from basic science to applied research using plant experimental model systems, crops and farm animals) make extensive use of genomic technologies and large sets of genetic and genomic data (http://biannualreport2016-2017.cragenomica.es).

Responsibilities:

•             Carry out the DNA extraction from archaeological remains in dedicated facilities

•             Quantification of DNA concentration

•             Prepare the genomic libraries for sequencing in an Illumina machine

•             Carry out the first preliminary computational results on the sequenced raw data in order to evaluate the performance of the remains

Requirements:

Educational Requirements: The candidate must hold a degree in Biology.

Required Skills: Wet lab experience is required in DNA extraction from archaeological remains. Specific experience in extraction from plant material will be positively evaluated.

Contract duration: 6 months with an extended period of three months.
