Job description

The Center for Research in Agricultural Genomics (CRAG) is looking for a lab technician to be part of the group working on maize and cell wall formation (https://www.cragenomica.es/research-groups/bioengineering-lignocellulosic-biomass-in-maize).

CRAG is an independent research institution engaged in leading-edge basic and applied plant and farm animal sciences. CRAG is established as a Consortium of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA), Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), and University of Barcelona (UB). The Center is located at the UAB Campus, and currently hosts 200 members from across the world.

Research Programs at CRAG (from basic science to applied research using plant experimental model systems, crops and farm animals) make extensive use of genomic technologies and large sets of genetic and genomic data (http://biannualreport2014-2015.cragenomica.es/).

Responsibilities:

The candidate will be part of a research group focused on the study of the main factors that control lodging resistance of maize stover. S/he will be responsible of the in depth characterization of the biochemical and molecular factors that determines the composition of lodging-sensitive and lodging-resistant maize varieties when submitted to different stress.

The tasks are included within the framework at the project : Desarrollo e implantación en la empresa de técnicas biotecnológicas innovadoras para la mejora y mantenimiento de cultivos agrícolas estratégicos para Castilla y León (RTC-2016-5816-2).

Requirements:

Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Biochemistry, Master in Plant Biotechnology.

 

Required Skills: Proved experience in plant genes expression and regulation. The candidate must be familiar with all the molecular, histological and biochemical techniques required for the quantitative and qualitative analyses of the main cell wall components in maize (lignin, cellulose, hemicellulose), as well as with techniques related to proteomics.
