Job description

ABOUT CRAG:

CRAG is an independent research institution engaged in leading-edge basic and applied plant and farm animal sciences. CRAG is established as a Consortium of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA), Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), and University of Barcelona (UB). The Center is located at the UAB Campus, and currently hosts 200 members from across the world.

Research Programs at CRAG (from basic science to applied research using plant experimental model systems, crops and farm animals) make extensive use of genomic technologies and large sets of genetic and genomic data (https://www.cragenomica.es/sites/default/files/2022-07/crag-summary-2020-2021_0.pdf).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This work will identify the genes controlling R. solanacearum fitness in different plant environments and in soil, where the pathogen can survive for years causing future disease outbreaks. Powerful genomics approaches will be used to answer these questions. This work will be the ideal occasion for PhD candidate to acquire a solid multidisciplinary formation in molecular biology, bacterial ecology and plant pathology and is expected to advance knowledge that will likely result in innovative approaches for crop protection.

REQUIREMENTS:

Educational requirements: Bsc in Biology or related areas

Skills: Fluent English writing and speaking abilities. Multidisciplinary formation in bacteriology, molecular biology and plant pathology

Experience: Previous training experience consisting in research stays in different labs. Internationalisation and expertise in the management of quarantine bacterial pathogens will be a plus will be a plus

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Contract Duration: trainee contract

Hours/week: full time
