ABOUT CRAG:
CRAG is an independent research institution engaged in leading-edge basic and applied plant and farm animal sciences. CRAG is established as a Consortium of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA), Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), and University of Barcelona (UB). The Center is located at the UAB Campus, and currently hosts 200 members from across the world.
Research Programs at CRAG (from basic science to applied research using plant experimental model systems, crops and farm animals) make extensive use of genomic technologies and large sets of genetic and genomic data (http://biennialreport2018-2019.cragenomica.es/).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Botigué group is looking for a predoctoral researcher with a strong background in bioinformatics and plant or agricultural sciences to carry out its PhD in a plant genomics. Main responsibilities will include to construction of local and whole genome assemblies, analyse genomic variability in a whole genome sequencing dataset with a population genetics and evolutionary framework and carry out analyses of gene expression in collaboration with a peers from the United Kingdom. During the stay in our group, the candidate will be trained in population genetics theory, wheat genomics, structural variation and genome assembly. The research carried out will be under the framework of projects funded by IEC (CBP – ENGRESCATS) and AEI PID2022-143139NB-I00.
REQUIREMENTS:
Educational requirements: A degree or MSc in Bioinformatics, Evolutionary Biology or Plant Sciences.
Skills: We look for candidates with a good knowledge in python scripting, navigating the cluster and analysing plant whole genome sequencing data.
Experience: Experience in analysis of genetic data is required. Some training in genome assemblies is preferred.
Experience in population genetic analyses is a plus.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Contract Duration: Three years.
Hours/week: 37.5
