Job description

ABOUT CRAG:

CRAG is an independent research institution engaged in leading-edge basic and applied plant and farm animal sciences. CRAG is established as a Consortium of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA), Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), and University of Barcelona (UB). The Center is located at the UAB Campus, and currently hosts 200 members from across the world.

Research Programs at CRAG (from basic science to applied research using plant experimental model systems, crops and farm animals) make extensive use of genomic technologies and large sets of genetic and genomic data (https://www.cragenomica.es/sites/default/files/2022-07/crag-summary-2020-2021_0.pdf).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Center for Research in Agricultural Genomics (CRAG) is looking for a PhD Student to be part of the group Protein regulation in development and stress.

The candidate will be in charge of:

  1. Learning to plan and conduct research under the supervision of Dr. L. Maria Lois including:
    1. day to day responsibility for the conduct and satisfactory progress of the research;
    2. keep meticulous experimental records, analyze data, interpret reports and bring new insights to research area;
    3. keep up to date with the relevant literature, evaluate and criticize texts;
    4. contribute ideas and be involved with the longer-term planning of the project;
    5. work safely and responsibly with regard to CRAG rules;
    6. be prepared to share their expertise and guidance with more junior members of the laboratory; participate in laboratory organization and function
    7. contribute to group meetings;
    8. general office duties as required.

 2. Learning to write up results and present internally and externally as appropriate, under the overall supervision of Dr. L. Maria Lois.

The tasks are included within the framework of the project PID2021-123572NB-I00 “Study of signaling networks linked to cytosolic SUMOylation facilitated by SUMO activating enzyme processing in plants (SUMOcell)”, funding by MICIU/AEI/ 10.13039/501100011033, “ERDF A way of making Europe”.

REQUIREMENTS:

Educational requirements: Degree/master in Biochemistry or similar

Skills:

  • Critical thinking and creativity, organization and planning, resilience
  • Strong analytical capacity.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate with others, internally and externally.
  • Writing and oral communication
  • Willingness to learn new experimental/intellectual techniques.
  • Motivation and commitment.

Experience: previous lab work applying biochemical, molecular biology, and microscopy techniques.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Contract Duration: 1 year

Hours/week: full time
