Job description

The Center for Research in Agricultural Genomics (CRAG) is looking for a PhD Student to be part of the group working on: Isoprenoid metabolism in tomato: Involvement in development and stress response.

CRAG is an independent research institution engaged in leading-edge basic and applied plant and farm animal sciences. CRAG is established as a Consortium of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA), Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), and University of Barcelona (UB). The Center is located at the UAB campus, and currently hosts 200 members from across the world.

Research Programs at CRAG (from basic science to applied research using plant experimental model systems, crops and farm animals) make extensive use of genomic technologies and large sets of genetic and genomic data (http://biannualreport2014-2015.cragenomica.es).

CRAG has a PhD Program for international students interested in the areas of plant biology and biotechnology, and plant and farm animal genomics and genetics (http://www.cragenomica.es/es/crag-phd-program).

Responsibilities:

The candidate will be responsible for determining by TLC and GC-MS the profile of free and esterified sterols ina collection of yeast mutant strains that overexpress different tomato Acyl-CoA: sterolacyl transfer ases and also in leaves of N- benthamiana plants transiently expressing the same enzymes.

The tasks are included within the framework at the project AGL2013-43522-R.

Requirements:

Educational Requirements: Holder of a Master’s degree.

Required Skills: Candidates must be highly motivated and have a strong background in Plant Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, particularly in the field of sterol ester biosynthesis in tomato. Knowledge of general plant metabolism and physiology as well as previous experience in working withtomato (cv Micro-Tom), Arabidopsis, tobacco (N. benthamiana) and yeast is also required.
