ABOUT CRAG:
CRAG is an independent research institution engaged in leading-edge basic and applied plant and farm animal sciences. CRAG is established as a Consortium of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA), Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), and University of Barcelona (UB). The Center is located at the UAB Campus, and currently hosts 200 members from across the world.
Research Programs at CRAG (from basic science to applied research using plant experimental model systems, crops and farm animals) make extensive use of genomic technologies and large sets of genetic and genomic data (http://biennialreport2018-2019.cragenomica.es/).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Botigué group is looking for a bioinformatic technician to support an on-going research project. Main responsibilities will include data transfer between high performance computers, develop bioinformatic code to carry out different tasks related with genetic and genomic data mining and visualization of results, and perform statistical analyses on the data our group has generated. During the stay in our group, the candidate will be trained in wheat genomics and population genetics theory, and gain experience in working on a SLURM-managed HPC cluster.
These tasks are included within the framework of the project PID2022-143139NB-I00 Study of the evolution of the free-threshing trait
in naked wheat varieties, origins and evoltuion.
REQUIREMENTS:
Educational requirements: A degree or MSc in Biotechnology, Genomics and / or Bioinformatics.
Skills: We look for candidates with a good knowledge in Python, Genetics and Evolution and alignment tools.
Experience: Experience in analysis of genetic data is required. Knowledge on studying structural rearrangements is a plus.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Contract Duration: One year.
